Vanguard, one of the world’s largest investment management companies and a recognized employer of choice, seeks an associate counsel for the Tax group to represent Vanguard and its affiliates and subsidiaries on various tax issues within particular areas of expertise.
Your primary duties and responsibilities will include: -Conducting legal and factual research to support the needs and initiatives of the company.
-Drafting and negotiating various legal documents and items of legal significance such as regulatory filings, contracts, memoranda, position statements, correspondence, and other documents and instruments.
-Establishing and communicating company policies regarding legal issues that arise within a particular area of expertise.
-Assisting and supporting outside counsel with work being performed on Vanguard’s behalf.
-Supporting the training, development, and substantive work of legal administrators, legal analysts, and other professionals in the Legal Department.
-Ensuring that legal matters, implicating areas across the company, are adequately addressed in a clear and consistent manner by recognizing legal issues when they arise, bringing those issues to the right people in the Legal Department, and coordinating responses to the business units.
-Assisting with and providing support for new services or initiatives undertaken by Vanguard.
-Attending various business meetings and legal seminars to develop and maintain expertise in applicable areas of the law, Vanguard’s business, and the mutual fund industry; keeping current on industry and regulatory developments affecting the business; fostering an interest in Vanguard’s initiatives, new services, and product offerings; researching applicable laws; and reading legal publications.
-Supporting, advancing, and maintaining the Legal Department’s standards, projects, and endeavors by being responsive to clients and demonstrating a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, adherence to Vanguard’s code of ethics, and good judgment; initiating and implementing new projects; and supporting Vanguard Unmatchable Excellence and contingency efforts.
-Participating in special projects and performing other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate should possess: -Graduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience; law degree, JD degree, or equivalent.
-Exceptional leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

-Ability to work quickly and independently with attention to detail and sensitivity to deadlines.
-Demonstrated client relationship and communication skills.
-Tax experience preferred.
