Litigation Support Technical Specialist – Skadden, Arps, an international corporate law firm, has an excellent opportunity for experienced Technical Specialist.

Technical Specialists perform tasks associated with creating and modifying databases and imagebases, encompassing database administration, data manipulation and software utility creation; performs quality checks to ensure quality and accuracy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: – Quality checks data received for loading and reports statistics on quality of data and images – Loads data and images from CD and other media sources to the Firm's systems – Converts and manipulates data for loading into the Firm's database systems – Designs and documents software utility modules using scripting languages – Performs complex tasks associated with OCR conversion, PDF conversion, CD-ROM creation and image printing that do not lend themselves to standardized procedure – Works with LT Project Coordinator(s) to ensure quality of loaded data and images – Informs Project Coordinator/Manager regarding project progress and issues – Assists with software testing and trouble-shooting – Creates databases and sets up user accounts – Trouble-shoots and resolves issues with desktop applications and equipment – Maintains physical order of source media and other related materials – Assists with complex database searches and generation of reports – Assists with printing, document production (paper and electronic), creates CDs – Assists with creation of electronic bound volume sets – Performs other related duties as assigned ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER JOB-RELATED COMPETENCIES: – Working knowledge of job related computer software, ie imaging, database and Web technology – Working knowledge of structured query language (SQL) for use with databases – Working knowledge of programming principles – Command of at least one of the following scripting languages – Perl or Unix Shell – Working knowledge of Unix – Ability to read, interpret and follow instructions – Ability to communicate, both written and orally, effectively – Flexibility to adjust hours to meet operating needs and work overtime as necessary EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: – Bachelors degree in computer science – Minimum of a year of related or law firm or related experience

Designs and tests database installation, implementation, and recovery scenarios.

Determines test to use and collects appropriate data according to established guidelines.

Participates in analysis, development and implementation of unique database recovery plans in response to client-impacting outages.
